The "BIG GIRL" bed

This was the weekend. Paul was home (meaning an extra set of hands), Clara had totally lost interest in sleeping in the pack n play (so we had not been getting much sleep at night because she just refused to stay asleep). So.....

We moved the crib out of Lily's room and sorta forced the big girl bed. (The crib is now in the living room where the pack n play was...for the time being... the good thing being that Clara will sleep thru pretty much anything and she is sleeping so much better! Hopefully in about a month or so we will be able to put the girls back in the room together).

Saturday morning as soon as Lily woke up, we started talking about it. Moving the crib, how she would sleep in her "Big Girl" bed and let Clara have the crib, etc. She was very excited; handed us her pillow and blanket, helped us move the crib out of her room. We talked about it all day off and on and at 7PM we took the big step. At first when we started leaving the room, she got up and ran into the living room. The second time we put her in the bed and closed the door she got up, and fussed a little, but after about 5 min. she got quiet. We figured that the only options she really had were: 1. play, 2. sleep in the bed, or 3. sleep on the floor. A half hour later we peeked in to see that she was soundly asleep in her bed. At some point in the night I heard her fussing for a few min. but she settled herself back down and this morning woke up very rested.

Tonight, night #2, she went straight to bed and never cried or got up. And so, we now have Lily, the big girl! I'm actually quite amazed at how easy these first two nights have gone.

Now the big DOWNSIDE... Lily no longer naps. She's been fighting it for a while, and when she would nap she would scream and bedtime and that was a huge battle. But now that she has the freedom to get out of the bed naps are no longer an option for her. This will be a big adjustement for this house! Just another way she is showing how she is so not like Felix, who sometimes still naps.
