She fought with the road and lost...

A normal, low key Wed. afternoon... The kids finished up dinner and wanted to go outside to play. It was 5:30, too early for baths and the weather was perfect-- it was just cooling off from a really hot day. So we lathered down in OFF and went outside. They often play a game where Felix rides his bike and Lily runs after him... it's a common thing, and it's always perfectly fine... but last night....

It was about 6:30--- they were running--- and in slow motion it happened... she tripped, she fell, hands out to catch herself... the momentum was too much, her hands gave way-- she face planted in the road.

Even when I saw it happening I didn't think she was hurt. She fell right at the edge of a huge mud pile that is often in our road after a rain. When she stood up I thought she was covered in mud. Then-- she started screaming...
As I walked down to her I noticed it was blood, not mud that covered her sweet face. Even still, I figured it was just a nose bleed from bumping it on the ground.
I scooped her up and took her screaming to the house to try to mop some of the blood away--- and THAT was when i realized exactly what had happened. A skinned nose--- and just underneath it, bite marks... thru the top of the lip in the frenulum.... all the way thru---
My head went into overdrive-- I knew it meant stiches! I paged daddy; called the peds on call nurse (why can't these things happen during regular hours??); called Rachel as I loaded kids in the car-- she was my lifesaver promptly telling me to put the other two back in the house b/c she would be there in 5 minutes (and she was!).
I now know where Children's ER is...
We got home about 10pm with one stich in our upper lip.
Funny, I never thought that this one would be the one to land us in the ER....
